General information about the house

Binissaida is a family home and we are committed to keep it safe and quiet.

The paintings and the period furniture have been in our family for centuries. Therefore, we expect our guests to be respectful of the premises, its contents and our neighbors.

Lodging more people than stated in your contract or hosting a party, without previous approval, are strictly forbidden. If you wish to host a party, it’s possible and we will help you organizing it.

Pets are not allowed on the 1st and 2nd floor. Under some conditions we may accept a well behaved pet on the the ground floor only. Please consult with us.

Smoking in the house is forbidden. If you smoke outside, please do not litter and dispose properly of your butts.

We ask our guests to not go to the 1st floor in wet bathing suits, specifically in the green lounge. On this level we have carpets, antique furniture and sofas and we want to avoid all risks of damage.

Our managers usually spend a few hours per day at Binissaida and will take care of all the practical details. They will also manage the cleaning of the house, the water supply, the pool and the gardens.

Please note that we rent on a ‘self catered basis’. Our staff has the mandate to maintain the property but they will not perform any personal housekeeping or laundry (if you need this type of service, please contact us).

We reserve the right to enter all parts of the house for general maintenance and for regular routine cleaning.

Upon your arrival

Here are a few noteworthy details that Dani or Diana should review with you:

  • how to change gas tanks for the kitchen
  • how to reboot the electric network in case of an unexpected surge
  • how to switch on the patio/chapel and garden/pool lights
  • the garbage situation
  • the path to the coast

Internet

There are 2 ‘Nuracom’ networks. There is a wifi signal inside, in the green lounge, 1st floor - no password. You can also connect outside (pool area) on Nuracom-EXT, the passcode is henri

Mail

Due to its remote location, no mail is delivered to the house. You can use this company in town:

MailBox Etc., Carrer d'Artrutx, 24, 07714 Maó, Illes Balears, Phone:+34 971 35 44 36

IMPORTANT…

We expect all of our guests to be insured for damages incurred to the house and its contents during their stay in addition to having coverage for all accidents and personal injuries.

Toilet

They function on septic tanks: only toilet paper is allowed in the bowl.

Garbage

In Menorca, there is no municipal garbage collection outside of urban areas. It is YOUR responsibility to dispose of the garbage on a daily basis (there are many bins along all roads). Please note that we cannot permit garbage to accumulate more than 24 hours on the property because it attracts rodents and other pests. If our staff is obliged to dispose of your accumulated garbage, there will be an additional cost to you of €10 per load.

Safety

We would recommend keeping small children away from the staircase and the cistern located in the vaulted entrance.

Please note that the pool is not fenced; therefore, children should be supervised at all times when they are in the patio and gardens.

At the entrance of the pool area, there is an old bread oven. Its ceiling is quite thin and could collapse under excessive weight. Therefore, it is strictly forbidden for children to climb on it. We mention this point because children are tempted to jump from it into the pool.

It may be a lot of fun but very dangerous, especially if people are below. Also, if one misses the pool when diving from this oven, it could cause a very serious accident with permanent injury.

The path to the sea shore is difficult and not suitable for persons with ambulatory handicaps.

Guest responsibilities

Please do not wear any wet bathing attire inside the house.

Please, lock the doors when you leave.

As a precaution against sudden gusts of winds, please, shut the windows, close the umbrellas and put away cushions, table cloth and other linens.

All damage to property and missing items will be deducted from your security deposit.

Do not move furniture. If you displace mattresses, beds, tables or any other major pieces of furniture, our cleaning lady will not be able to move them back to their original place without additional external help and you will be responsible for this expense.

If you encounter any problem:

First, you should try to call Diana.

Suggested excursions

The history of Menorca is very rich; you will find plenty of information on the internet, at tourist information desks or in travel guides. Here are our personal suggestions:

Visit of the Mola fortress

This military complex was built as a defense system for the Port of Mahon, the largest natural harbour in the Mediterranean, see: www.fortalesalamola.com

Museum of Menorca, Avenida Doctor Guardia, s/n 07701 Maó Tel. +34 971350955 April to end of Oct.: Tuesday-Saturday: 10:00 – 14:00 and 18:00- 20:30, Sundays: 10:00 – 14:00

S'Hostal quarries (Líthica) in Ciutadella.

On the island, most of the traditional buildings are made of limestone (mares). The quarries are located near the town of Ciutadella and are very impressive: www.disfrutamenorca.com/canteras-shostal
This visit should be combined with a tour of Ciutadella itself (old town and harbour).

Seaside

You can access the sea from the house; there is no defined path. Follow our road until it ends and then walk through the landscape you will discover a unique wild natural coast.

The island has many beaches and coves (calas). Most are unspoiled as the island has been well protected from the abuses of tourism developments.

By car, we suggest to drive to: Cala Alcaufar (SE), village of Binibecca, Es Grau (E), Cap de Cavalleria, Cala Morell (NW), Cala Macarella (SW).

If you are ready to walk, you can’t miss:
Cala Presili: take direction of Cap de Favaritx (NE corner of the island), 1 km before the lighthouse, there is a wooden gate. Park your car there and take the trail, after about 800 m take the path to your left which leads to the beaches.

Cala Pregonda: Go to the north of the island, to Binimel-la beach which is accessible by car from the village of Es Mercadal. From Binimel-la, you will be able to walk westward along the coast to Cala pregonda (20 min).
NOTE: when you pass by Es Mercadal, we suggest you to stop in the city center, at a bakery called Villalonga-Ca’s Sucrer, and buy some amargos which are traditional almond based delicacies.

Restaurants

There are many good restaurants in Menorca. The most proximate areas are the Port of Mahon and Torret-S’uestra (exiting Sant Lluis southward).

If you just want to have tapas and traditional dishes, we strongly recommend this neighborhood, inexpensive restaurant located in the center of Sant Lluis, La Rueda, Tel. +34 (971) 15 03 49 or 971 15 11 84, info@restaurantelarueda.com closed on Tuesdays.
